The West Atlanta Watershed’s Winter Solstice Celebration was an urban woods success. The Eco-Winter gathering took place atop Bush Mountain on the Outdoor Activity Center grounds, on the night of December 20, 2008.

Nearly sixty (60) participants enjoyed a guided hike to the hill-top site from the parking lot, through the forest along natural surface trails. Celebrants were of all ages, including family groups, singles and friends. 

Master drummer Adebisi Adeleke performed traditional Yoruba talking drum rhythms from his country of Nigeria. He explained the cultural purpose of each of the three types of talking drums, and involved the audience in the singing of Yoruba chants and songs.

Park Pride 2008 Friends of the Park Roundup PDF Print E-mail

On Thursday November 20th Park Pride hosted the 2008 Friends of the Park Round-up at the Outdoor Activity Center.  Park advocates from across the city attended representing current and potential Friends of the Park groups.  Tips and tools were displayed for browsing while attendees enjoyed catered snacks provided by Chef Christi Jackson of Jubilee Catering.

 On November 14-16, REI partnered with WAWA, Earthwise Productions, Inc.  Keeping it Wild, Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, Edge of Night Camping,  and National Wildlife Federation’s Earth Tomorrow Program to host a weekend retreat - Rediscovering our Roots in the Great Outdoors at the culturally historic Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, GA.
